Audi’s clever use of quattro four-wheel-drive technology gave the A4 exceptional traction and consistency, while Biela’s smooth and disciplined driving style allowed him to extract maximum performance over entire race weekends. In the 1996 BTCC season, Biela and Audi became nearly unbeatable, forcing rivals to rethink their entire approach to Super Touring engineering. The success of the Audi A4 Quattro became one of the defining technical stories of the category before regulation changes eventually outlawed four-wheel drive.
